Seven Simple Steps to online lessons

We have put together a simple guide to make the transition to online lessons as smooth as possible. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch, you can email us any time to academy@pianomaestros.co.uk.

#1 TIMETABLE

To minimise the disruption to everyone's routine, we will follow the agreed weekly/fortnightly/ad-hoc schedule. However, the very first online lesson may need to be slightly longer (start earlier or finish later), to allow time for finding the right set-up.

#2 WHAT YOU NEED

To have your online lessons, you need to have one of the following:
· A laptop with a camera and microphone
· Mobile phone
· Tablet or iPad

#3 SOFTWARE WE USE

Skype
You can connect with via Skype by searching for the username, email address, or mobile number. Skype video calls work on laptops, tablets, iPads and mobile phones.
WhatsApp
You can connect with your tutor easily through their mobile number, but video calls work only on a mobile phone!
Zoom
Zoom is one of the leading video-conferencing platforms for online lessons and webinars, used by many music teachers and other professionals. Tou will need to download the app before the first use.
FaceTime
Perhaps the most straightforward video calling option, but available only on Apple devices.

#4 DEVICE SETUP

Your teacher needs to have a good view of the keybaord and your hands. Keep in this in mind when you are setting up your device, the side angle works best.

#5 ONLINE SAFETY

!Students up to the age of 18 MUST have their lesson using a parent's account and under their supervision! The parents must be present in the room, or nearby while lessons take place. It is, after all, a great way to find out what is your child learning.

#6 DURING THE LESSON

• Please try to position the built-in camera on your device so that it shows your face and especially hands.
• Make sure that there is sufficient lighting and have the light source behind your camera when possible.
• Please remember to have a pencil to hand; you may need to write comments or fingering on the music, and make practice notices your piano lessons notebook.

#7 AFTER THE LESSON

Feel free to contact your teacher if you have any questions about your pieces before the next lesson.

Happy piano practice :)
