Covid-19 Health & Safety Policy

Staying COVID-19 secure

We confirm that we have complied with the Government's guidance on managing the risk of COVID-19, and we have carried out a specific COVID-19 risk assessment in line with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.

We have updated our Health & Safety Policy and introduced protective measures to prevent the risk of spreading the virus during our lessons.

As guidance issued by the Government on working safely during current coronavirus continues to be updated, we will remain vigilant and communicate any necessary updates as these come through.

Piano Maestros face-to-face lessons will be available only where both, students/parents and tutors, have agreed in writing to adhere to COVID-19 control measures, to follow the updated health and safety rules.

Despite all efforts and measures in place, students/parents and tutors must be aware that face-to-face tuition will never be entirely free of risk of contracting COVID-19.

CONTROL MEASURES FOR LESSONS IN STUDENT'S HOME

  • Travel to and from lessons on public transport

When public transport needs to be used by a student, social distancing must be maintained at all times while on public transport.

If this is not possible, consideration should be made to adjust the time of the lesson, so that social distancing while on public transport can be observed.

If the lesson time adjustment is not possible, consider conducting lessons remotely via a video call.

  • Arrival at the lesson

Avoid close proximity between other household members:

a) Ask other members of the household to avoid crossover when your tutor arrives and leaves.

b) Avoid and prevent contact with any pets.

  • Teaching set-up

Arrange the room set-up so that teacher and student can be 2 meters apart.

If / when this is not possible, 1 meter plus and at least one of the following:

a) Side to side positioning (no face to face communication).

b) Wear a face shield.

c) Wear a face mask or covering.

Maximise ventilation by opening doors and windows where practicable.

  • Contact with common surfaces

Avoid touching common contact surfaces including;

a) Door handles - the tutor will wait for the student/parent to let them inside.

b) Piano keys - the tutor will not use the same piano for any demonstration.

c) Music - both, student and tutor must use their own music books.

d) Practice notes - students must make their own practice notes.

  • Singing

Any singing, or aural training, must be carried behind a perspex screen, which will be cleaned after the lesson.

If this is not possible, there will be no singing or aural training in lessons.

  • Hygiene measures

Student and tutor must wash their hands or use hand sanitising gel immediately before and after each lesson.

The piano keys, piano bench, door handles, and all common surfaces must be cleaned immediately before and after the lesson. You can use anti-bacterial wipes or, to protect your piano keys, we recommend a damp cloth rinsed in water mixed with washing up liquid.

  • Possible contact with COVID-19

You must conduct lessons remotely online if any of the following applies to you or anyone in your household;

a) Tested positive for Covid-19.

b) Continuous cough, temperature or loss of taste or smell symptoms within the last 14 days.

c) Had contact with a confirmed Covid-19 case.

  • Higher and moderate risk students

You must inform your tutor if you belong to the group of people who are at high risk (clinically extremely vulnerable) or moderate risk (clinically vulnerable) from coronavirus.

a) Students who are at higher risk due to age or underlying health conditions are advised to continue their lessons online.

b) For students who are at moderate risk, extra vigilance will be applied regarding distancing and cleaning measures.

Further information on who is at moderate and higher risk from COVID-19 is on NHS official website: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/people-at-higher-risk/whos-at-higher-risk-from-coronavirus/
